One of the challenges presented by building additions is integrating features and elements from older construction that lay in close proximity.

Designers and project managers must pay even closer attention to architectural details that can make or break the new installation. In these circumstances lighting becomes even more important.

Duket Architects were presented with removing an old garage in place of a new one matching the style of a preexisting home. Incredibly the old garage was accessible through the rear of the house from the basement and included a deck that was showing its age. The new building incorporates the same blend of Ohio and Indiana limestone as the preexisting home and contains three Beacon Wall Mount lighting fixtures (one above each door). The BWM Series is also featured on the house further intertwining the two buildings' characteristics. The garage's wooden doors are stained a natural Cabot cedar stain matching the house doors. They really bring out the fixtures natural copper patina highlights.

The new garage which includes large storage and expansion areas above the carports may be utilized as a future living space and provides more privacy for the home's new patio. The older garage was completely removed to provide space for laundry areas and a reading nook.
