The Wild Goose Ranch project by Kelly & Stone Architects is spectacular as its panoramic setting.
This modern and luxurious interpretation of a Western ranch home of a by-gone era includes energy-efficient designs, renewable energy and agricultural ponding basins. And the enduring metals found in the many TEKA Illumination products that grace the ranch's exterior.
Kelly & Stone Architects is a member of the United States Green Building Council and are dedicated to incorporating sustainable designs and building practices in their residential and commercial projects. They were responsible for the solar, Geo-thermal and energy efficient general plan for both this structure and a large timber barn which is also found on site.
Average summer high temperatures in Steamboat Springs, Colorado barely break 80° F.
Winter temperatures average a chilly 13° F in January, the coolest mean. Snow covers the ground 40% of the year. TEKA Illumination products, such as the Beacon Pendants shown above simply endure year after year. The CCT (Now BSB) seen in the two preceding photos indicate these fixtures are sourced with Compact Fluorescent lamps.
Wild Goose Ranch contains more than just Beacon Stem Mount fixtures. Also present are Beacon Wall Mount luminaries as shown below in this detail on an exterior wall. The angular lines of the dovetail style siding is echoed by the angles of the Beacon series. It is these types of patterns, along with varying textures that create interest and sophisticated designs.
Sones Landscape Architecture Group was responsible for the exterior transitions between home and the immediate Colorado landscape. Just as Kelly & Stone brought the dramatic views into the home through the use of extensive glass walkways and over-sized windows, SLA extended the home outside as shown below.
The firm is known for outside/inside design elements and often incorporates water features, pools, living and dining areas in transitional spaces. A single Beacon pendant fixture can be seen in the photo below and works with the many textures and construction materials to convince inhabitants that this outdoor space isn't just that.
